Job Summary

Battelle Carbon Services is currently seeking a Geophysicist . This position is located in Columbus, OH or remotely.

As a Geophysicist, the selected individual will primarily provide geophysical support for internal R&D projects and support for commercial CCS projects.

The successful candidate will work with the guidance of senior geosciences staff. Examples of responsibilities based on current or anticipated projects include:

• Manage the design, planning, prototyping, field-testing and commercialization stages of a long-term research and development project deploying multiple geophysical technologies for CCS monitoring programs.

• Support commercial and governmental projects by leading geophysical data acquisition and integration initiatives in collaboration with a multidisciplinary subsurface team.

• Advance the selection and execution of geophysical monitoring, verification, and reporting techniques, including surface and subsurface instrumentation suites and data analysis techniques.

• Liaise with geophysical vendors to ensure successful project outcomes and maintain currency on evolving technology.

• Provide field support and oversight for geophysical data acquisition projects.

• Assists with preparation of proposals to provide geophysical services for CCS opportunities.

• Interact with both internal and external clients to convey results or present findings through briefings.

Key Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in geoscience, geophysics, electrical engineering, physics, applied math, earth sciences, or related fields with 6 years of experience or master’s degree in related field with 4 years of experience or PhD with 1 year of experience; or an equivalent combination of education and or experience in a related field. Preferably with thesis work related to CCS methods.

• Experience with technologies utilized in CCS monitoring including the seismic method and distributed acoustic sensing (DAS).

• Hands-on experience with geophysical data analysis, interpretation, and integration software suites (Petrel or GVERSE GeoGraphix is preferrable).

• Excellent written and oral communication skills with ability to represent Battelle or its clients at conferences or public forums.

• Must be a U.S. Citizen.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with non-seismic geophysical methods such as electromagnetic and gravity techniques.

• Field experience with acquisition of geophysical data.

• Geophysical data processing experience.

• General understanding of CCS, subsurface characterization, modeling, well design, well permitting.

• Additional background in geoscience, geophysics, mechanical engineering, data science, signal processing, or numerical techniques.
