We are currently looking for a Senior Safety Engineer to join our team. The project location will be on-site at Offutt Air Force Base, Nebraska.

In this position, you’ll assist in providing technical support, safety training, and site safety oversight. You will be responsible for the enforcement of our Health and Safety Plans and for providing safety oversight and support for large-scale construction projects. You will partner with our HSE lead, construction managers, project management, and contractors to manage the overall construction effort. You will actively support and contribute towards a positive safety culture and our Beyond Zero Program. Safety will be your priority, as you contribute to “incident free” operations and maintain the highest standards of Health & Safety in everything you do.

This position serves as a technical expert for managing safety requirements on construction projects, with tasks as follows:

  • Conducts safety surveys at a variety of workplaces to identify and evaluate non-compliance with safety and occupational standards.

  • Evaluates safety management effectiveness and recommends to management measures to control hazards and potential hazards.

  • Prepares reports and analysis of circumstances, actions taken, and recommendations made for modifications in the accident prevention program.

  • Provides feedback information concerning the effectiveness of the control measures to management with recommended modifications,indicated by the analyses.

  • Conducts follow-up surveys to evaluate management effectiveness in controlling hazards and to assure management recognizes its responsibility and role in the program.

  • Perform safety oversight for multiple job sites ensuring requirements of the Area/Resident Office’s Safety Plan are followed and implemented as well as all pertinent provisions of EM 385-1-1.

  • Review and/or develop Job Hazard Analysis for project activities.

  • Investigates accidents and reviews accident reports to ascertain facts and identify contributing causes in order to prevent reoccurrence.

  • Devises mechanisms to reduce the degree of hazard where it is not possible to eliminate the hazards.

  • Communicates with multiple parties, including USACE staff, contractors, subcontractors, regulating agency staff and others as needed to gather and relay requirements as necessary.

  • Attend construction activity preparatory meetings.

  • Review and assess contractor safety plans and activity hazard analysis (AHA) for multiple projects.

  • Alert USACE and Jacobs officials immediately of life safety issues that may require halting of activities.

  • Input safety reports into RMS daily reports.

  • Revise and update the Area/Resident Office's Safety Plan.

  • Develop safety training presentations and guidance as requested.

Here’s what you’ll need :

  • High School Diploma.

  • Background in safety engineering, industrial hygiene, occupational health and safety, or a related field.

  • Minimum 10 years of experience in construction and occupational health and safety.

  • Current OSHA 30-Hour.

  • Working knowledge of OSHA and EM 385-1-1 regulations.

  • Working knowledge of health and safety hazards associated with various environmental and construction-related activities, such as working around heavy machinery; excavation and trenching; electrical and mechanical systems; tools; crane rigging/lifting; heat stress; confined spaces; elevated work; hazardous and toxic contaminants; flammable and combustible materials; demolitions; hot work; etc.

  • Must be able to pass HAZWOPER physical and be able to wear respiratory protection.

  • A valid driver’s license and reliable transportation.

  • United States citizenship.

Ideally, you'll also have:

  • EM 385-1-1 40-hour training.

  • CQM for contractors course.

  • Current CPR and First Aid certifications.

  • Certified Safety Professional or Certified Industrial Hygienist certifications are a plus.
